Smart City

Hello Friends,

Hot and sensational talks are going on around Smart City. I have one humble request to our Greatest politicians. Please don’t see this issue as a stage to make political benefits. Don’t let this project which is a dream of thousands and lakhs of IT Professionals in Kerala, go away amidst political warfare and corruption and red tapism.

I'm not for or against any political party, and i think that many of us are not having any extreme political stands now a days. We have work to do, build up a career, and have ambitions. We don’t have time and energy to spare for politics, strikes and quarrels. This is a major factor that probes political parties to go against our dream - Smart City. If the youth of Kerala are employed and well settled, they won’t get enough people to conduct Strikes and Hartals. They find it hard for their existence. Coz their existence depends on the ignorance of general public. Most of the political leaders own Bungalows, Estates and all in their name or as binami. Some of them may have inherited these properties from their ancestors, while most others are not. Their children are provided the best education while the same is denied to the general public. Why they show this double-dealer attitude? Pure and simple, they need to prosper. Do u know any politicians who have a job along with serving people? Well my answer is "No". What do they do for a living? They do have a family which depends on them. So Politics is a job for these people. Even more we can call it "Business", where the qualifications are "courage to lie looking at ones eyes", "Ability to flatter a mass by words", and above all "Skin as thick as that of a Rhino or more". The investment is nil and if u are smart enough and makes the right move at the right time, then the returns are enormous. No education is required, the one who have the least is the most qualified one here. No retirement for politicians. Cemetery is the limit. Here even the job of a sweeper demands educational qualifications. (Please don’t take it in the wrong sense. I’m not saying that the job of a sweeper is bad. Every job does have value.) Every one asks for qualifications when we go for a job. It is a pity that we don’t have any rules to prevent illiterates handling key positions and ruling people. The ministers need to look after the matters of the state, they need to go through various files a day. If they can’t read them, and understand what’s in it? Then how are they gonna rule a state. I know there are exceptions, but a very few exists today. Does any political party have the courage to introduce a bill which prescribes a minimum educational qualification (preferably a Post Graduation or at least a Graduation) for the candidates for an election? Will any political party be ready to introduce a maximum age limit (in any case don’t set it to 100, maximum of 65 or at the most 70 is preferred) for those candidates? No party will. It’s bcoz all political parties have such oldies, and they need to accommodate them. All the government jobs have retirement age. Y do these people stay an exception? Is it mandatory that they can serve the people only if they have power? I think “No”. I’m not saying that old politicians need to stay at home and stay away from politics. Let them serve the people. And let other qualified persons who are young, who have bright ideas, who have ample education, who knows about moving trends of today rule our state.

Those people who oppose this Smart City and Express Highway doesn’t know that they are digging their own graves. In this regard, I’m very much against the stand of left front parties. They opposed detaching pre-degree from colleges when the previous government tried to implement it. And when they came to power, they shamelessly implemented it. Our Honorable VS once said that one computer will make 10 persons jobless. This was when IT industry started flourishing in India and when computerization was brought to our state. He now owns a Laptop. What a great contradiction no? When Richard Stallman came to India, he raised voice against the use of Microsoft products and cried against the monopoly Microsoft enjoys. His laptop is having a Windows Operating System. The Children of the legendary left leaders who oppose Management Colleges have had their education in the most expensive Self financing Colleges. They raise voice saying that they do all these for the poor. Very true, coz they all are rich and can afford these. The only one who suffers is the general public.

Smart City if it comes to reality will definitely fetch thousands of jobs to people. More over it will fetch more and more foreign investment. Corporate giants like Microsoft, IBM, and Oracle will be coming to our small state. Isn’t that a great thing? Not only IT professionals will prosper. The living standards of the entire community will go up. We have the proud name of introducing the first IT park in India - Techno Park in Trivandrum. But what is our current status? Why have we gone backward after a good start? Simply because our leaders are not good enough. Let’s learn from our neighboring states. See how they are developing, how they move according to the trends. One last word to those who oppose Smart City – “Please shed this anti development mentality. If you have real commitment towards the state and the public, dont be a barrier in it's development. ” This is a request. What makes Kochi a favorable location is the proximity of airport and seaport, Abundance of Well Educated Professionals and workers and the low cost of living and low wage rates. These factors favor Kochi and make it compared to Shanghai, China. When others show us a way to succeed and develop, Please don’t shut the door at their face. Those who criticize Smart City are doing so like criticizing a film without seeing it.

Come on Comrades, let’s fight against this injustice. Let’s fight those who are against the development of the state. Let’s deny them votes and funds. Please sign the online petition in favour of Smart City.

Being a Malayalee living in Madras for the past 15 years and making his living in a software firm in Madras,i cannot help wondering why politicians in Kerala don't want to follow the examples of governments in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The governments in these two states have made sure that the bulk of the IT market come to them.Even if the govts may be corrupt and run the state like police states, its a marvel that 80% of the IT/ITES market is concentrated in these two states. And i find it hard to belive that political bums who want to develop Kerala are trying to push development back by 20 years giving stpid resaons.Imagine the number of unemployed PG students in Kerala? The state with the highest literacy rate is being pushed down by the same people who claim to be working for the people..what a load of crap.Kerala is falling behind now.Crime rates are up,unemployment is rising steadily and there is a proliferation of cheap labourers from TN who take up labor jobs in the state bcuz WE ARE TOO FUCKING LAZY to do hard labour. And what is more surprising is that there are only 6500 signatories which is really pathetic.Wake up Kerala..Act before its too late.We should keep these politicians who follow double standards in jail and take away their voting rights and strip them of their privilages.Or drive them away from the state.

Online votaries push Smart City project

Source: IANS. Image Source: DGL.Microsoft

Thiruvananthapuram, May 30:

Political parties in Kerala who are opposing the Rs.10.5 billion ($241 million) Smart City project have been given a rebuff by over 6,000 online supporters from around the world who favour the venture.

The proposal, planned in Kochi and to be executed by the Dubai Internet City, has been hanging fire after the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), some dissident Congress leaders and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opposed it alleging large-scale corruption.

The government said the project would provide a record 33,000 new jobs in the field of information technology in 10 years.

Fed up with the political wrangling, some information technology professionals posted a petition, written by K.E. Anuraj, on the website petitiononline.com, pleading in favour of the Smart City project and asking political parties not to interfere.

The petition received an astonishing 6,063 replies from around the world in its support. And the number of petitions has been increasing by the minute.

"Kick out the CPI-M. We want to work in our state. A request to political parties - Live and let others live. Your names are already black listed. Try to correct yourself as early as possible. 'Acchu mama', (Achuthanandan) is the real trouble out here," read some of the statements, posted mostly by young IT professionals.

Trouble began after Chief Minister Oommen Chandy announced early this month that the cabinet had cleared the project and a memorandum of understanding would be inked soon with the Dubai Internet City in Dubai.

The first to oppose the project was opposition leader and CPI-M politburo member V.S. Achuthanandan who termed the project a total rip off as it involved large- scale corruption, especially in the sale of prime land at Kochi.

Joining hands with Achuthanandan were Congress legislators M.P. Gangadharan and D. Sugathan who owe allegiance to dissident Congress leader K. Karunakaran. They alleged that Chandy had accumulated millions of rupees by way of commissions in the deal.

The BJP also joined the CPI (M) and the Congress leaders in opposing the scheme.

However, Chandy is adamant that the project will take off. He is planning to call an all-party meeting to clear any doubts over the venture.

Growing political situation in the state is stopping all developments in the state. Mr. Karunakaran wants his children to get a position in the state politics. He took it up and there happend the birth of a new political party, in which whoever wants positions can join. Shame on such politicians, who makes our name in the mud.

Good to have leaders who would work for the betterment of the state. I heard Achudanandan's interest is to give his son a good position in Smart City. Typical case of Kerala State Politics. Right now the state needs a revolution. Shoot all the politicians & Take over the control. Handover the power to younsters who are interested in bringing the state one level up of others.

We should unite and let these politicians know that we can join hands and give them a reply if we wanted to. We kept quite on whatever they were doing till date was not the liberty provided to do anything that they wanted. Stop Cheap Politics... Stop finding faults in everything... Stop the attitude of opposing any suggestion... Stop agitating for everything... Stop... Stop... Stop...

Provide opportuinities... Bring industries... that are environment friendly... So that the serenity of the state is maintained, we can call the state GODS OWN COUNTRY in future too...

Very Valid Grievance. Even though i am not a malayali, i support the smart city. Regarding handling of political parties in Kerala, what i feel is that since their political donation/expenses are met by the trade unions, they don't need to hear the opinions of the industrialists / bodies like CII. So better way to make a good point will be to make a projection of taxes ( both indirect and direct) collected to be by the state and central governments if the smart city is on.

I think these sites and petitions can be real voice if we can get some good attention in the media. I am sure that one of you guys have the contacts to put the news of this in the media then we can generate more interest in this.
The real voice are the votes. Each person should take active interest to make sure that his family and friends knows the truth and make them vote for people who support the developmental activities

I am wondering if you can post the website that I specifically created for smart city in your page.

The website is called http://www.voteforsmartcity.com and
in the web-site you can cast multiple votes that are representative of the number of votes that you are influence.

Users are allowed to vote for any of the political party, and hence politicians can compare the votes that each of them are likely to get based on their stance in smart city.

I do not write many responses, but i did a few searching and wound up here "Smart City".
And I do have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind. Could it be just me or does it look like a few of the comments come across like written by brain dead individuals? :-P And, if you are posting on other places, I'd
like to follow everything fresh you have to post. Would you make a list of all of your
public sites like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
